Designing cutlery through handling and understanding comfort through clay

Through the knowledge and understanding of how we handle cutlery, I aim to design cutlery that is comfortable to hold, handle and grip as well as aesthetically pleasing. To do this I covered existing cutlery with clay and held them in place, leaving prints and indentations.

Using these indentations, I will be able to produce designs of cutlery that fit in the hand as well as inspiration from the work of Ralf Holleis on 3D printed bike lugs. He used printed forms with holes to lower the overall weight and increase speed. This can be applied to cutlery to able it to be lightweight and easier to use.
